WEEK 5  Review President Hinckley's priesthood talk in the October 1998 Ensign, "To the Boys and to the Men." Prayerfully ponder how obedience to the Prophet's counsel regarding self-reliance, putting our homes in order, and living within our means has been accomplished in your family or as an individual this year. If you have not obtained the minimum recommended Basic Food Storage for your family, determine and set a course of action for doing so as soon as possible. If you have obtained the minimum Basic Food Storage for your family, determine and set a course of action for obtaining extended storage items for health and first aid. Reduce debt, adopt a thriftier lifestyle, and adapt to a lifestyle of wanting less to have more!
WEEK 4  Accurately assess and inventory current Basic Food Storage. Update Food Storage Binder as needed to reflect current inventory. Rotate oldest inventory to the front to ensure proper rotation. (If planning to utilize hot water heater water or toilet tank water for emergency storage, carefully drain 2 gallons of water from hot water tank and clean toilet tank each month and put 1/2 cup bleach in cleaned tank.)
WEEK 3  Read and ponder Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79. Commit the sacrament prayers to memory in celebration of Christ's birth in a city also known as "House of Bread." Recycle a woven wide-splint basket and copy the "bread" scriptures on the bottom of the basket with a fine-line permanent marker for a family heirloom/Christmas gift, etc. Use this to serve bread from at family meals. (Or, fill with homemade bread or rolls for a visiting teaching or home teaching holiday gift.)
WEEK 2  Search the topical guide listings Bread and Bread of Life. Copy the scripture references on slips of paper and place in a "bread" basket. For Family Home Evening have family members select a scripture from the basket. Read and discuss the significance and source of our daily bread and our dependency on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Make homemade soft pretzels or other bread recipe for Family Home Evening, serve them from the scripture bread basket as part of the refreshments.
