Review President Hinckley's priesthood talk in the October 1998
Ensign, "To the Boys and to the Men." Prayerfully ponder how obedience
to the Prophet's counsel regarding self-reliance, putting our homes in
order, and living within our means has been accomplished in your family
or as an individual this year. If you have not obtained the minimum recommended
Basic Food Storage for your family, determine and set a course of action
for doing so as soon as possible. If you have obtained the minimum Basic
Food Storage for your family, determine and set a course of action for
obtaining extended storage items for health and first aid. Reduce debt,
adopt a thriftier lifestyle, and adapt to a lifestyle of wanting less to
have more! |
WEEK 4 |
Accurately assess and inventory current Basic Food Storage. Update
Food Storage Binder as needed to reflect current inventory. Rotate oldest
inventory to the front to ensure proper rotation. (If planning to utilize
hot water heater water or toilet tank water for emergency storage, carefully
drain 2 gallons of water from hot water tank and clean toilet tank each
month and put 1/2 cup bleach in cleaned tank.) |
WEEK 3 |
Read and ponder Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79. Commit the
sacrament prayers to memory in celebration of Christ's birth in a city
also known as "House of Bread." Recycle a woven wide-splint basket and
copy the "bread" scriptures on the bottom of the basket with a fine-line
permanent marker for a family heirloom/Christmas gift, etc. Use this to
serve bread from at family meals. (Or, fill with homemade bread or rolls
for a visiting teaching or home teaching holiday gift.) |
WEEK 2 |
Search the topical guide listings Bread and Bread of Life.
Copy the scripture references on slips of paper and place in a "bread"
basket. For Family Home Evening have family members select a scripture
from the basket. Read and discuss the significance and source of our daily
bread and our dependency on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Make homemade
soft pretzels or other bread recipe for Family Home Evening, serve them
from the scripture bread basket as part of the refreshments. |
WEEK 1 |
See Bethlehem in the Bible Dictionary. Take an opportunity
to share the significant meaning of Christ's birthplace in a Family Home
Evening. Serve bread in some form as the refreshments. If you have not
already obtained the total recommended basic grain storage for each family
member, obtain the remaining amount necessary, as finances permit. If you
have obtained the total recommended basic grain storage, then purchase
a hand grinder or electric mill as a family Christmas gift to fully utilize
your grain storage. Label, date, and store correctly. Record all purchases
in Food Storage inventory binder. |
